"Wait! Don't--" Ines shouted, but was interrupted by something…soft?
Against all logic or reason, the beast was nuzzling its head against us both, and surprisingly, it didn't hurt at all. Despite the flames that encased its entire body, it didn't burn to the touch even slightly.
I grinned, burrowing my way out from underneath its feathers and onto my feet. "Well, aren't you a good birdie," I cooed happily, stroking its feathers. "Zezz, can I keep it?"
"W-why are you asking me? Plus, isn't it a bit…large to keep?"
It squawked indignantly, as if it had actually understood what he said.
"Don't listen to him, Birdie, you're perfect just as you are!"
"This is likely our target, and the source of the increase in hostile," Ines began. "We can't exactly just leave it here alive, but I don't know that they'll let us leave with it, either."
I hummed in consideration, "That's fine. Zez and I are quite good at bending the rules, aren't we?" I winked.
Though he groaned in irritation, there was a slight smile on his face. "Well, if something slips past my sight, and I'm none the wiser to it, it's not my fault. Consider my eyes closed."
"It wouldn't be the first time you've let something slip by," a smirking voice echoed through my mind.
"Whatever do you mean? If something slips past my sight, and I'm none the wiser to it, that's hardly my doing."
"You okay, Yna?"
"Huh?" I blinked, "Oh, y-yeah, I'm fine. Let's get this bird out of here."
He ruffled brown shoulder-length hair in thought. "Suppose I should go back for all of us then, huh?"
A grin spread across my face, so wide it could split it in half. "Thank youu~" I lunged forward to squeeze him tightly. At first, he was taken aback, but soon wrapped his arms around me with a chuckle.
